SGAMS Rocketry Team Places Second in Nation

The Spring Grove Rocketry teams delivered an impressive performance at the 22nd annual American Rocketry Challenge national competition, held in The Plains, Virginia. The American Rocketry Challenge is the world’s largest student rocket competition. This year’s competition saw a record-breaking 922 teams, the most in the American Rocketry Challenge's 22-year history.

The Spring Grove Area Middle School team achieved an outstanding second-place finish, marking the highest placement for an American Rocketry Challenge team from Spring Grove, surpassing their previous two fourth-place finishes. They earned a combined score of seven from two launches. A perfect score in the Challenge is zero. This year's rules required teams to design, build, and launch model rockets that could safely carry one large raw egg to an altitude of 820 feet, stay airborne for between 43 and 46 seconds, and return the rocket to the ground safely. The team was awarded $15,000!

The Middle School team members are:

  • Zeke Trimmer
  • Gautham Narayan
  • Xavier Bowman
  • Eland Kampes

The High School team also performed admirably, securing 46th place. Congratulations to:

  • Haley Hake
  • Jacob Yingling
  • Jack Lutter
  • Natalie Lecrone
